BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia – The Tigers returned home on Sunday evening after a two-game road trip. Salem played host to the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets at The Bridge Sports Complex. The Tigers were looking to pull off a big home win, but the Yellow Jackets were too much as they would take the game by a score of 18-1.
In the first half, the Yellow Jackets wasted no time getting on the board as they would score two goals in the first 5 minutes of play. However, the Tigers were able to strike back with their first goal of the game at the 7-minute mark by
Danaye Walters. The Yellow Jackets went on a 7-0 run to close out the first half. West Virginia State went into the half with a commanding 9-1 lead.
In the second half, the Yellow Jackets scored two more goals within the first 2 minutes of play. The Tigers were desperately looking to get some more goals on the board. Unfortunately, the Yellow Jackets would keep rolling as they went onto scored three more goals between the 50- and 60-minute mark. At this point, the Yellow Jackets had complete control and were not looking to let up either. The Yellow Jackets scored three more goals to close out the game. West Virginia State would end up taking the game 18-1.
Despite the loss, the Salem Tigers will have a few days to regroup before they head to Frostburg, Maryland for a match up against the Bobcats on Wednesday evening.
