BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia- The Salem Tigers women's soccer team faced off against the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats on Wednesday evening at The Bridge Sports Complex. The Tigers were looking to get into the win column against the Bobcats. Unfortunately, the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats were able to secure the victory on Wednesday evening by a score of 2-0.
In the first half, the Bobcats wasted no time getting on the board scoring their first goal of the game at the 13-minute mark. The Salem Tigers were able to hold steady on the defensive end gathering 7 saves to prevent the Bobcats from scoring anymore first half points.
In the second half, both teams came out playing aggressive defense and were able to prevent each other from getting the offenses going. However, at the 55-minute mark the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats were able to strike and score their second goal of the game extending their lead to 2-0. The Tigers desperately needed to get the offense rolling if they wanted any chance to get back into this one. Unfortunately, the Bobcats were able to maintain possession of the ball and drain the rest of the clock while they were at it.Â
On the stats sheet,
Sarah Cabrera was able to secure 12 saves in the game.
Jayda Patrick took the lone shot on goal for the Tigers as well.Â
Despite the loss, the Tigers will have a chance to regroup before they play in their next contest. The Salem Tigers will head to the southern part of the state as they will take on Concord University on Sunday at 5 PM.
