SALEM, West Virginia – After starting the season on the road, the Salem Tigers men's basketball team made their home season debut. The Salem Tigers looked to get a home opener win against the Gannon Golden Knights on Saturday evening. Gannon was able to hold a steady lead for most of the game and end up defeating Salem 90-72.
In the first half, Gannon got off to a quick start with a 10-2 lead early on. Salem was able to cut the lead down to 5 with a couple buckets coming from
DJ Harrell and
Tyree Davis. However, Gannon was able to go on a 12-1 run to extend their lead to 24-8 with just under 12 minutes left in the half. For the rest of the half, Gannon was able to maintain a comfortable lead and head into the half up 47-35.
In the second half, the Tigers were able to cut the lead down to 51-41 with a jumper by
DJ Harrell at the 17-minute mark. Unfortunately, the Golden Knights would pull away once again and go on an 8-0 run over the next 4 minutes.
Kevin Constant scored 4 points at the 10-minute mark to cut the lead back down to 10. With 10 minutes left in play, Gannon held a 64-54 lead over Salem. Gannon was able to pull away for the final time to maintain a commanding lead and not look back taking the win by a score of 90-72.
In the stats sheet, the Tigers were led by
Tyree Davis who chipped in 16 points and
Jalen Barnes scored 13. The Tigers were able to score 44 points in the paint but couldn't get the threes to fall only shooting 21 percent from deep.
Despite the tough loss, the Tigers will have a chance to regroup and get back in the win column on Monday night as they head to Seton Hill University for a 6 PM contest.
