BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia – On Sunday evening, the Salem Tigers women's soccer would play in their final home game of the season. The Tigers honored their seniors prior to the game starting. The Salem Tigers were looking to pull off a big upset over the Wheeling Cardinals. However, Wheeling was able to end up securing the win 6-0.
In the first half, the Cardinals wasted no time getting on the board first at the 3:41 mark. Wheeling was able to extend the lead to 2-0 with another goal coming at the 11:49 mark. During the middle stretch of the first half both teams were playing good defense. Unfortunately, that wouldn't last too long for the Tigers as the Cardinals would score 2 more goals back-to-back. The Wheeling Cardinals held the 4-0 lead over the Salem Tigers at the half.
In the second half, the Tigers desperately needed to get some offense going if they wanted to get on the board. However, the Cardinals were able to score their 5
th goal of the game at the 52-minute mark. Three minutes later, the Cardinals would strike again to extend their lead to 6-0. The Cardinals would control the ball for the rest of the game and let the clock run down. Wheeling ended up defeating Salem 6-0.
Despite the tough loss, the Tigers have another shot to get in the win column on Wednesday as they travel to Pittsburgh, PA for a 5 PM match up vs Point Park University.
