UNIONTOWN, Pennsylvania - Even though their season is not quite finished, the Salem volleyball team has some big news to share ahead of their final two contests. The United States Collegiate Athletic Association announced their selections for All-American honors on Wednesday night, and 3 Tigers made appearances in that list namely Noemi Combi, Hailey Haynes, and Makenna Long.
Noemi Combi (2nd Team) - Combi has been an offensive force for the Tigers this season from the outside hitter position. She currently leads the team in kills and points, and she is third in service aces and hitting percentage.
Hailey Haynes (2nd Team) - Hailey Haynes has made a big impact for the Tigers in her freshman season. The Salem native has been a stalwart in the middle blocker position, and she currently holds the team lead in solo blocks, block assists, and blocks per set. She has also been strong offensively with 131 kills, and she leads the team in hitting percentage.
Makenna Long (Honorable Mention) - Makenna Long has been a true swiss army knife for the Tigers this season. Despite battling through some injuries, she currently holds the team lead in kills per set and points per set.
Additionally, the following Tigers earned USCAA All-Academic team nods for all their hard work in the classroom this season:
Kayla Holbrook
Noemi Combi
Valentina Poti
The national recognition goes a long way to highlight the strides Head Coach Matt Carpenter's squad has made this season, and should give them some extra energy as they head into their final two contests of the season, namely on November 12 at Wheeling and on November 15th in the home finale against Point Park.
