SALEM, West Virginia- After a loss this past Wednesday, the Salem Tigers men's basketball team returned home for a Saturday match up. The Salem Tigers went up against the Concord Mountain Lions on Saturday evening. The Tigers were looking to get back in the win column against the Mountain Lions. Unfortunately, Concord was able to control the pace of play and were able to defeat the Tigers by a score of 82-64.
In the first half, the Tigers struggled to get things going offensively. Concord was able to take advantage of that get off to an early 15-4 lead with 14 minutes remaining in the half. Concord was able to extend their lead over the middle portion of the half. With 8 minutes remaining, Concord held a 28-13 lead over Salem.
DJ Harrell was able to keep the Tigers in it with back-to-back buckets around the 6-minute mark. However, Concord was able to maintain a lead at the half. At intermission, Concord held a 40-32 lead over Salem.
In the second, the Mountain Lions got off to another good start as they were able to extend their lead to 15 with 13 minutes left to play.
Jalen Barnes and
Isaac James both hit some key baskets around the 8-minute mark to cut the deficit. With 7 minutes remaining,
Daquan Coleman hit a huge 3 for the Tigers. Concord still held a 68-61 lead with 7 minutes remaining in game time. Unfortunately, Concord pulled away to close out the game to get the victory. Concord defeated Salem by a final score of 82-64.
In the stats sheet,
Jalen Barnes and
Isaac James were the only Tigers to crack double digits. Barnes had 11 points and James added 10 points.
After the loss, the Tigers will regroup and prepare for their next contest on Wednesday evening. Salem will go head-to-head with Davis & Elkins College on December 11
th at 7:30 PM at T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
