RICHMOND, Virginia - Ahead of the Salem Women's Basketball first round matchup with Maine Fort Kent at the USCAA Tournament, the organization has announced their seasonal awards for both Men's and Women's Basketball. Salem featured heavily on both sides of the awards list for USCAA Division I, with a total of 10 postseason awards and two skills competition championships.
First, Elena Pericic was named to the All-American 1st Team for her efforts on the court for Salem this season. A team leader in both scoring and rebounding, Pericic has clearly shown she is one of the most talented forwards in the USCAA Division I. Pericic also earned a skills competition win when her and teammate Carine Pinkney dominated the hotshots event. After her, 2 other Tigers featured on the 2nd Team of USCAA Division I All-Americans. Cassandra Smith and Emerson Wells both earned that honor, and Wells also notched a win in the pre-tournament 3 point contest held on Saturday afternoon.Â
Off the court, 3 Tigers featured on the Women's Basketball All-Academic team for their efforts in the classroom this season. Namely, Anete Bluma, Carine Pinkney, and Barbara Trehub all made the list for their academic success this season.Â
On the men's side, the Tigers got 3 players onto the All-American list. Specifically, Jack Garrison IV, Ian Hardy, and Ashraf Tchadouwa all earned honorable mention nods for Salem. Tchadouwa also earned a spot on the All-Academic team for USCAA Division I Men's Basketball.Â
With the awards in hand, Salem Women's Basketball will be primed to make their return to play in the USCAA Division I Tournament today at 3 PM when they face off with the Bengals of Maine Fort Kent. That contest will be played on the campus of Richard Bland Community College in Richmond, Virginia.
