BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia - After a frigid afternoon on Saturday for the Tigers, the central West Virginia weather made up for it with some sunny skies for Salem's second doubleheader of the weekend, which was pushed back to Monday due to a scheduling conflict. In those contests, Salem played host to the Bobcats of Frostburg State. Salem opened well, but were not able to seal the deal in either contest. Each one played out as follows:
Frostburg State 6, Salem 5
After trading scoreless opening innings, it was the Bobcats who drew first blood with a run in the 2nd. However, the Tigers answered with a big 3rd inning of their own. It got going with a Kaydee Anderson walk that brought in Kellen Ramey from third. Then, Syriah Triujillo built on the rally with a RBI single to bring in Victoria Castro. 2 more scored right after that with a Ricki Garay single that made it 4-1 in favor of the Tigers. Salem controlled the game, but a late Frostburg State rally in the 5th and 7th innings gave the game right back to the Bobcats. The Tigers made a valiant effort at one last rally in the bottom of the 7th with a Syriah Trujillo sacrifice fly to bring Salem within a run. However, that is where the comeback bid came up short, and the Tigers ended up with the tough 6-5 loss. In the pitcher's circle, Salem got some strong work from Andrea Gallegos and Kendall Lemley despite the loss.Â
Frostburg State 8, Salem 0
For Game 2, the Tigers had a tough time getting their offensive game plan going as they faced off with some commanding pitching from the Bobcats. Karmen Hogan was the lone Tiger with multiple hits, as she singled in both the 3rd and 6th innings. However, the strong pitching and defensive display for the Bobcats was enough to send the Tigers away with the 8-0 loss. In the pitcher's circle, starter Brooke Wise and reliever Kayla Williams combined to strike out a pair of Bobcats batters.Â
While the results today did not end the way Salem intended, they will have ample opportunity to get back on track this week. They are currently scheduled to head up to South Euclid, Ohio to take on the Notre Dame College Falcons on Tuesday, March 26th at 2 PM for a doubleheader.
