Salem Defeated at Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, Maryland - With a pair of heartbreakers yesterday afternoon, the Salem Tigers softball team had little time to dwell on them as they headed up to Maryland for another pair of contests against the Bobcats of Frostburg State. Salem showed some flashes, but were ultimately unable to unseat the Bobcats on their home field. Both contests played out as follows:

Frostburg State 8, Salem 0

For Game 1, the contest opened up well for the Tigers defensively as they only allowed a pair of hits in the first 2 innings. However, the Bobcats drew first blood in the 3rd with a lone run, and then opened the game up with a big 4th inning. Frostburg State went on to seal the 8-0 victory in the bottom of the 6th by adding their final run off the contest. Despite the loss, Salem was led offensively by Sierra Chapa and Charlee Johnson, who each had a pair of hits in the contest. In the pitcher's circle, the combined efforts of Andrea Gallegos and Kendall Lemley yielded the Tigers a pair of strikeouts in the contest.

Frostburg State 4, Salem 3

For Game 2, Salem trailed initially, but bounced back quickly with a big 2nd inning. Brooke Wise got things going with a double, and then Syriah Trujillo and Karmen Hogan singled back to back to drive in a total of 3 runs. The Bobcats knotted things back up in the 4th, and the deadlock held into the bottom of the 6th when Frostburg State added a lone run to hold a slim lead heading into the final frame. Unfortunately, Salem was unable to get the bats going in the 7th, and Salem was defeated in yet another late game heartbreaker. Statistically, Salem was led by the aforementioned Trujillo and Hogan. Trujillo ended with a pair of hits and an RBI, and Hogan added just 1 hit and a pair of RBIs. In the pitcher's circle, Brooks Wise played well despite the loss, and she finished the game with a pair of strikeouts.

The Tigers continue their road swing in the midweek ahead of next weekend's home contests. They head up to Canton, Ohio on April 10th at 1 PM for a matchup with the Pioneers of Malone University.
