Late Night Fireworks Lead Tigers Past Penn State Dubois

DUBOIS, Pennsylvania - After a tough ending to Day 1 of the USCAA Small College World Series, the Salem softball team was set for a rematch with Penn State Dubois on Day 2 up in Dubois. The Tigers defeated the host once already in this tournament, and left no doubt in the rematch with a 11-3 thrashing. The contest played out as follows:

Salem 11, Penn State Dubois 3

In a contest that was originally set for 8 PM, the Tigers were not about to let a nearly 2 hour delay phase them. Salem got to work right away offensively with 5 runs in the first inning. Meladie tripled to add the first Salem hit of the game, and then Brooke Wise brought her home with a RBI single. Later in the same frame, Alyvia Pittman came to the plate with the bases loaded, and knocked in 3 RBIs with a bases-clearing double. Pittman then scored off a Abigail Harki single, and Salem had control of the contest with a 5-0 lead. Dubois answered with 2 runs of their own, but Salem returned serve with one more run to make it 6-2 when Ricki Garay added a sacrifice fly to score Meladie LaRance. Then, Salem used another sacrifice fly, this time from Kayla Williams to bring home Alyvia Pittman to make it 7-2 after 3 innings. Dubois scored again in the 4th, but Salem was able to put the contest out of reach in the 5th. First, Meladie LaRance tripled to score Sierra Chapa and Alyvia Pittman. Then, Brooke Wise put the game out of reach with a 2 run home run, and Salem advanced to Day 3 of the USCAA Small College World Series. In the pitcher's circle, Andrea Gallegos and Kendall Lemley combined to shut down Dubois, and they logged 3 strikeouts as a unit in 5 innings of work.

As previously mentioned, this win advances the Tigers to Day 3 of the USCAA Small College World Series. They are currently set to take on their 4th straight Penn State opponent in the tournament to open play tomorrow. This time it will be Penn State New Kensington, and that contest is set to take place at Noon in Dubois, Pennsylvania.
