BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia- In the second home game of the season the Salem Tigers women's soccer team hosted the West Liberty Hilltoppers on Wednesday afternoon at The Bridge Sports Complex. The Tigers were looking for their first win of the season, but the Hilltoppers were too much as they secured a 9-1 victory.
In the first half, the Hilltoppers were able to get off to a fast start on the offensive side of the ball as they would score 4 goals in the first 30 minutes of the game. The Tigers really needed to get the offense rolling before the half, but the Hilltoppers were able to score 2 more goals before half. At the half the Hilltoppers had a comfortable 6-0 lead.
In the second half, the Hilltoppers scored a quick goal at the 46:30 mark to extend their lead to 7-0. However, the Tigers were able to strike back with their first goal of the game by
Vanessa Allen at the 49:53 mark of game time. Less than a minute later the Hilltoppers would score their 8
th goal of the game at the 50:22 mark. The Hilltoppers would score the final goal at the 63-minute mark to make it a final score 9-1.
In the stats sheet,
Sarah Cabrera was able to gather 21 saves.
Vanessa Allen was able to get 2 shots on goal and score her first goal of the season.
Despite the tough loss, the Tigers will have a chance to regroup and get back on track as they take on Fairmont State on Sunday, September 22
