BUCKHANNON, West Virginia – After a long off-season of preparation, the Salem Women's Soccer traveled to Buckhannon to take on West Virginia Wesleyan College in the season opener. First year head coach Bryce Meche made his debut as he looks to turn the program in the right direction.
The first 20 minutes of play was a defensive battle until West Virginia Wesleyan was able to get on the board first at the 20:56 mark to make it 1-0. Just minutes later West Virginia Wesleyan scored a penalty kick at the 23:35 mark to extend their lead to 2-0.
Second half of play started out quiet with both teams playing strong defense. Until West Virginia Wesleyan scored their final goal of the game at the 82:26 mark to extend the lead to 3-0. The Tigers were able to secure 14 saves in the season debut against the Bobcats.
Despite the tough loss tonight, the Tigers will have a chance to get back on track in their next contest. That contest will be on Wednesday, September 11
th when they take on Lincoln University.
