ELKINS, West Virginia- As the cold weather continued in the mountain state, the Salem Tigers men's and women's swimming continued their season. This past Friday, the Tigers traveled to Maryland for a match up against the Frostburg State Bobcats. The next day, the Tigers headed to Elkins, West Virginia to compete against Davis & Elkins. Salem looked to close out the regular season on a high note. The Tigers men's swimming team was able to split the weekend losing to Frostburg, then defeating Davis & Elkins. However, the Tigers women's team dropped both over the weekend.
On the women's side, things kicked off against Frostburg with the Girls 200 SC Meter Medley Relay where the Tigers finished 3
rd and 5
th.
Cheyanne Rohde was able to grab a 3
rd place finish in the 100 Meter Backstroke.
Mackenzie Hamilton earned an impressive 1
st place in the 100 Meter Freestyle with a time of 1:06:08. Against Davis and Elkins,
Kiara Barnes had an impressive 1
st place finish in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:06:88.
Mackenzie Hamilton had a 2
nd place finish on the 50 Yard Freestyle.
Kiara Barnes even added another 1
st place finish in the 50 Yard Backstroke. Salem was able to place 1
st in Women's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. Overall, the women had a good individual performance but were defeated in both as a team. Frostburg defeated Salem 201-48, while Davis & Elkins defeated Salem 135-71.
On the men's side, the meet started off against Frostburg State with the Salem Tigers earning a 2
nd place finish in the 200 Medley Relay.
Alvaro Arruga Moreno earned a 2
nd place finish on the 800 Meter Freestyle.
Elias Maurer secured a 1
stplace finish in the 200 Meter Freestyle with a time of 2:01:37.
Marko Zivojinovic had a 2
nd place finish on the 100 Meter Freestyle.
Veer Kassan placed 1
st in the 200 Meter IM. Onto Davis & Elkins,
Veer Kassan kicked things off with a 1
stplace finish in the 100 Yard Breaststroke. Connor McAllister added a 2
nd place finish in the 100 Yard Butterfly.
Alvaro Arruga Moreno earned another impressive finish placing 1
st in the 200 Yard Freestyle.
Marko Zivojinovic placed 1
st in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Arruga Moreno built on his day with another 1
st place finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle. Maurer wrapped things up for the Tigers finishing 1
st in the 50 Yard Backstroke. Overall, the Salem Tigers were able to split the weekend first with a loss against Frostburg and then finished the weekend strong with a win over Davis & Elkins. Frostburg defeated Salem 178-62. Salem defeated D&E 103-88.
After the weekend meets, the Tigers will look to build on some successful individual performances in both the men's and women's swimming. The Tigers will now prepare for the conference tournament.
