BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Salem University women's soccer fell 7-0 on Wednesday evening against West Virginia Wesleyan.
The Bobcats controlled the match from the outset, netting three goals in the first half before adding four more in the second. Paloma Zamora, Ava Badallo, and Sydne Alexander each found the scoresheet in the opening 24 minutes to build a 3-0 lead. Wesleyan continued its attack after the break with tallies from Jordan Hartline, Kailey Garofalo, Venla Paunonen, and Brookelynn Washington.
Despite the scoreline, Salem goalkeeper Janiya Brooks-Crews turned aside 10 saves on 35 total shots faced, including seven stops in the first half to limit the early damage. Offensively, Niah Hidalgo registered the Tigers' lone shot on target in the first minute, testing Wesleyan keeper Maylie Bland.
Defenders Britney Riley and Chloe Owens logged heavy minutes along the back line, while midfielders Valentina Valle and Heidi Faske worked tirelessly in the center of the field.
Next up, the Tigers are set to host the Mountain Lions of Concord on Sunday, October 6th at 1 PM at The Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport, West Virginia.
