BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Salem University women's soccer fell 8-0 to Concord University on Sunday afternoon.
Concord opened the scoring in the second minute and never looked back, netting six goals in the first half and two more after the break. Marika Svensson led the way for the Mountain Lions with four goals and an assist, while Ella Rowell added a goal and an assist.
Despite the result, Salem goalkeepers Chloe Owens and Janiya Brooks-Crews combined for 22 saves, facing 40 total shots from Concord's attack. Owens stopped nine shots in the first half before Brooks-Crews came on after the break to make 13 saves, including several on close-range efforts.
The Tigers' defense — led by Britney Riley, Sara Del Bosque Duque, and Heidi Faske — worked tirelessly to limit Concord's chances in transition. Midfielders Valentina Valle and Iva Ristic also logged full-time minutes for Salem.
After a tough result today, the Tigers hit the road for their next round of competition. They are set to take on Charleston down in the state capital on Wednesday, October 8th at 7 PM.
