SALEM, West Virginia - After some tough results last week, the Salem Tigers volleyball program finished up a 4 game homestand tonight with a matchup with the Washington Advestist Shock. The Tigers found a groove offensively early, and cruised to the 3-0 win.
In the opening set, Salem came out firing on all cylinders and raced out to an early 10-1 lead. Alexandra Vigneron controlled the middle for the Tigers, and fueled their strong opening with a few key blocks. From there, the Tigers leaned on Noemi Combi and Valentina Poti and earned the 25-11 win.
In set 2, it was more of the same for the Tigers. The Shock made a valiant effort, but strong play from Mykenzie Clyncke and Amari Nunez propelled Salem to the 25-13 set win.
In the final frame, the Tigers kept the pedal to the metal, and rolled on to the 25-9 set win thanks to some strong work from the service line from Christeena Craddock, and a few key kills from Marika Righi.
Statistically, it was a strong night from Valentina Poti, who finished the game with 10 total kills and 2 service aces. Marika Righi finished with 6 kills, 4 service aces, and 2 solo blocks. Amari Nunez led the team in service aces with 5.
Energized by this win, the Tigers head down south this weekend for contests against West Virginia State and Charleston on October 24th and 25th, respectively.
