BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Salem University men's soccer team capped its home schedule in style on Wednesday evening, earning a 3–0 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan at The Bridge Sports Complex.
The Tigers (3-7-6) controlled play from the opening whistle, striking three times in the first half to take full command. Nicholas Vieyra opened the scoring in the 22nd minute off an assist from Josue Villegas, who followed with a goal of his own in the 38th minute. Copper West added a third tally just two minutes later to make it 3–0 before halftime.
Salem's defense and goalkeeper Jason Barrientos handled the rest, recording the team's third shutout of the season. Barrientos finished with eight saves, including several key stops to preserve the clean sheet.
Villegas led the attack with two points on a goal and an assist, while Caleb Christner added five shots — three on target — to keep pressure on the Bobcats throughout.
The Tigers outshot the visitors 13–8 in shots on goal and withstood six West Virginia Wesleyan corner kicks to secure the win.
Next, the Tigers take on the Wheeling Cardinals on the road on Sunday, November 2nd in Wheeling, West Virginia.
