SALEM, W.Va. – Salem University volleyball dropped a competitive straight-sets match to Frostburg State on Friday evening inside T. Edward Davis Gymnasium, falling 25-20, 25-19, 25-20.
The Tigers (6-5) were led by Marika Righi, who tallied 9 kills on .222 hitting along with 9 digs. Valentina Poti added 7 kills and 8.5 points, while Noemi Combi posted 6 kills and a team-high 5 service aces to spark Salem from the service line.
Setter Katie Kennedy directed the offense with 14 assists, 8 digs, and 2 aces, while Ana Julia Avila Vian anchored the back row with a team-best 18 digs. Alexandra Vigneron chipped in 2 kills and a block.
Despite Salem's strong serving and scrappy defense, Frostburg proved steady at the net, finishing with a .164 hitting percentage behind Devin Brunk (11 kills, .400) and Dani Kunkle (10 kills, .259). The match featured 11 ties and 6 lead changes, with the Tigers keeping each set close before the Bobcats pulled away late.
Although tonight's result stings, the Tigers will have a chance to reset and finish out the week on a more positive note in their next contest. They are back on the court tomorrow afternoon as they head up to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to take on the Cardinals of La Roche. That contest will tip off at 1 PM in the Steel City.
