ASHLAND, Ohio – Salem men's basketball put together a strong first-half scoring effort but couldn't keep pace with a hot-shooting Ashland squad, falling 89–69 on Wednesday night at Charles Kates Gymnasium.
The Tigers came out aggressive offensively, shooting 53.6% from the field in the opening half and keeping the margin within single digits for much of the period. Zahki Fallen led the charge early, scoring 11 points before halftime and finishing with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals, marking one of his most complete outings of the season.
Xavier Price provided consistent inside scoring and rebounding presence, totaling 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals, while Eman Lawal added 12 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.
Salem thrived in the paint, outscoring Ashland 42–50 inside and tallying 16 second-chance points, but Ashland countered with efficiency from the floor—shooting 57.4% overall and getting 22 points from Maceo Williams and 17 from Max Dawson. The Eagles also capitalized on Salem's 18 turnovers, converting several into fast-break points to create separation in the second half.
After today's setback, the Tigers will take a short holiday break before returning to action on December 1st when they host Penn State Greater Allegheny at 5 PM in T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
