SALEM, W.Va. — Despite a furious second-half comeback that erased a 20-point deficit, the Salem University men's basketball team came up just short on Saturday afternoon, falling 93–85 to Wheeling inside T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.
Wheeling built a commanding 51–33 halftime lead, capitalizing on efficient outside shooting and 11 first-half three-pointers. But the Tigers refused to let the game get away, erupting for 52 points in the second half and trimming the deficit to as little as four in the final minute.

Salem's comeback was powered by standout performances from its core:

-
Xavier Price was equally impressive, scoring 23 points and dominating the paint with 10 rebounds and several second-chance buckets.
-

Second-Half Surge Falls Short
After trailing by 22 early in the second half, Salem stormed back with defensive stops, transition buckets, and a flurry of scoring from Gamble, Price, and Lawal. A 20–6 run brought the Tigers within 82–78 with just over a minute left.
However, Wheeling's free-throw shooting down the stretch allowed the Cardinals to hold their lead and escape with the win.
The Tigers will not have long to stew on this tough loss as they are back in action on Monday, December 8th at 5 PM against Penn State-Fayette at home in Salem.
