ELKINS, West Virginia- Coming off a three-game home stand, the Salem Tigers men's basketball team was back on the road on Saturday. This time for a contest against the Davis & Elkins Senators. The Tigers were looking to pull off a road victory, but unfortunately the Senators were able to take the win after a huge second half run. Davis & Elkins defeated Salem 91-76.
In the first half, the Tigers were able to jump out to an early 8-4 lead just after a triple from
Jalen Barnes at the 18-minute mark. Davis & Elkins went on a 9-4 across the next 4 mins of play giving them the 17-12 lead over the Tigers. Fortunately, Salem was able to retake the lead after a
Daquan Coleman three at the 11-minute mark. The Tigers held the slight 20-19 lead. Salem was able to build on this momentum and extend their lead all the way to 7 with just 8 minutes left in the half. However, the Senators were able to close the half strong and knot things up at 44 as we headed into intermission.Â
In the second half, Salem jumped out to another successful start going on an impressive 11-2 run. With just under 17 minutes remaining, Salem held a 55-46 lead over Davis & Elkins. Unfortunately, the Senators would make quick work of that deficit and tie things back up in just 3 minutes later. At the 14-minute mark, the game was tied at 55. The Senators would go on a run across the next 5 minutes of play and get a 67-59 lead. Salem desperately needed to cut into the deficit as time was dwindling and they were able to do just that as
Jack Garrison IV knocked down a triple to cut the deficit to 6. Davis & Elkins was up 70-64 with 6 minutes remaining in the game. Unfortunately, that's as close as the Tigers would cut the lead as the Senators would control the last portion of the game. Davis & Elkins grabbed the 91-76 victory over Salem.
