Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Danny Carpenter

Tigers Stumble on the Road at Concord

ATHENS, West Virginia- As the season continued, the Salem Tigers men's basketball looked to finish up the second half of their road trip. This time the Tigers headed down to southern West Virginia for a Wednesday night contest against the Concord Mountain Lions. Salem was looking to pull off a big road win after a good first half, but unfortunately Concord would go on a huge second half run to cruise to a 98-84 victory.

In the first half, the Salem Tigers started off nicely with a 9-5 lead in the opening minutes of play. The Tigers would extend their lead even more so after a Jalen Barnes layup would give Salem a 21-11 lead with just under 11 minutes remaining in the half. Concord would fight back quickly tying things up after a 12-2 run across the midway point of the half. Fortunately, Salem would get the lead back after a Tyree Davis dunk and a Kevin Constant triple. With 5 minutes remaining, Salem held a 35-28 lead. Concord would close the half strong grabbing the lead back at the 1-minute mark. Fortunately, the Tigers were able to go into intermission with a 45-42-point lead.

In the second, Salem would make a run of their own with Isaac James and Kevin Constant trading buckets to give the Tigers a 11-4 run to start. The Tigers held a 56-49 lead with just over 17 minutes remaining. Unfortunately, that lead would dissolve quickly as Concord would tie the game back up a minute later at 56. The Mountain Lions pulled away across the midway point of the second half as they went on a 18-4 run. With 10 minutes left in play, Concord held a 74-60 lead. The Mountain Lions were able to control the game as time winded on and still held a double-digit lead with the score being 85-71 with 6 minutes left. Salem desperately needed to make a run now if they wanted to make a late push at getting back into this one. Unfortunately, Concord was able to maintain that lead and prevail to a 98-84 victory.

On the stats sheet, Kevin Constant had a massive 30-point performance on 12/15 from the field and 3/3 from beyond the arc. Isaac James had 11 points and 8 rebounds. Jalen Barnes and Kapone Barley both added 10 points of their own.

After a road loss, the Tigers will look to regroup and return home to prepare for their next contest this weekend. That match up will be against Glenville State University this Saturday at 4pm as a part of UHC Family Medicine Day.
