SALEM, West Virginia- After a two-game road stretch, the Salem Tigers men's basketball team returned home on Saturday. The Tigers would face off against the Glenville State Pioneers in the second leg of a triple header for UHC Family Medicine Day. Salem would look to pull off the big victory. However, Glenville would holdoff the late Salem comeback attempt. Glenville defeated Salem in a thriller by a score of 84-81.
In the first half, Glenville State would control the pace of play in the opening minutes getting out to a 16-8 lead. Fortunately, the Tigers would things rolling on the offensive end to tie it back up at 20 after a
Tyree Davis layup. The score was knotted up at 20 with 11 minutes left in the half. Glenville grabbed the lead back again 32-27 with just under 5 minutes remaining. The Pioneers closed the half strong extending their lead to 10 as the half closed. At intermission, Glenville State led Salem 44-34.
In the second half, both teams would trade buckets back and forth as Glenville held a 50-40 lead with just under 15 minutes left. The Tigers cut the lead within 3 after a
Kevin Constant layup with 10:41 left in the second. However, Glenville State would get control of the game once again and get a 74-62 lead with 5 minutes left in the game. Fortunately, the Tigers would make a late push as
Kevin Constant threw down a dunk with 3 minutes left to cut the deficit to 5. With just under 3 minutes left, Glenville held a 77-72 lead.
Kevin Constant would go onto hit another big shot with 53 seconds left, but Glenville still held a 81-76 lead.
Jalen Barnes knocked down a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 3. The Pioneers were up 81-78 with 37 seconds left. Glenville hit another free throw to get back up 82-78 with 25 seconds left. Fortunately for the Tigers,
Jalen Barnes would knock down a huge triple to cut the deficit to 1 with 8 seconds left. The Pioneers would knock down a few more free throws to get the lead back up to 84-81. Salem would get one more chance to tie it up with just seconds remaining, unfortunately
Kapone Barley's half court heave just missed. Glenville ended up securing the victory 84-81.
On the stats sheet,
Daquan Coleman led all Tigers with 22 points.
Jalen Barnes finished with 18 points and
Kevin Constant added 14.

After the close loss, the Tigers will regroup and look forward to their next match up on Wednesday. The Tigers will head to Charleston for a 7:30 pm match up against the Charleston Golden Eagles.
