Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Kaden Shoaf

Tigers Defeated at Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, Maryland - With the winter weather putting the travel plans for Salem women's basketball potentially in peril, the Tigers were fortunate that the weather shifted as they made their trip up to Frostburg State Wednesday evening. A slow start for the Tigers made things difficult, and the Bobcats were able to pull away with the 90-47 win.

In the first quarter, Frostburg State made scoring chances hard to find for the Tigers. Cassandra Smith got things going later in the period, but the Bobcats controlled a 24-8 advantage going into the 2nd period.

Next, Salem needed to claw their way back into the contest. Akhia Miller and Carmen Vasquez both made some key contributions, but Frostburg State rode some strong offensive performances to a 41-16 at the half.

Coming out of the locker room, Salem went back to their veterans in order to get back into the game. Cassandra Smith and Liliani Krause played their offensive roles well in the period, but Frostburg State rolled their way to a 67-28 lead going into the fourth.

In that final frame, Salem launched one final comeback bid. They made a valiant effort, but the Frostburg State advantage was simply too large to overcome. Therefore, Salem was sent away with the 90-47 loss at the hands of the Bobcats.

Statistically, Cassandra Smith led the way for the Tigers with 21 points. Liliani Krause chipped in 14 points as well.

Despite the tough result today, Salem will be excited to get back on the court this weekend. The Tigers will be celebrating Senior Day ahead of the final home contest of the season on February 22nd at 2 PM against old rival Fairmont State.
