SHEPHERDSTOWN, West Virginia- Coming off the home weekend series with Lock Haven, the Salem Tigers baseball team hit the road for their next match up. That contest would happen in a rematch against the Shepherd Rams. Salem looked to secure a big road victory, but the Rams would pull away late to get the 10-4 victory.
As the game got underway, it would be Tristian Milik getting the start on the mound for Salem. The Tigers bats struggled to get going in the first 2 innings as they were held hitless. Fortunately, the Rams offense was cold to start the afternoon as well. It would be the Tigers who struck first after a
Hunter Rose hit a rbi single and
Aidan McMurdo would score the opening run. Through 3 innings, Salem had the 1-0 lead. However, in the bottom of the 4
th the Rams would get going with 4 hits of their own resulting in 3 runs. Shepherd now held a 3-1 lead over Salem.
In the top of the 5
th, the Tigers would get their second run of the game when
Jose Lojo advanced on an error. Resulting in
Aidan McMurdo scoring his second run of the game. The Tigers now just faced a 1 run deficit as we headed into the 6
th. Unfortunately for the Tigers, in the bottom of the 6
th the Rams would pour on 5 more runs. Shepherd hit 2 homeruns in the inning and a few mistakes by the Tigers led to the big inning. As we headed into the 7
th, Shepherd was up 8-2.Â
The Tigers were not done yet as
Alex Harper and
Reese Rinna both hit a rbi single resulting in 2 more runs for Salem. Unfortunately, the Rams would match those runs in the bottom of the 7
th after a couple doubles. Shepherd now had a commanding 10-4 lead as we went into the 8
th inning. Salem was unable to get any hitting going in the 8
th and 9
th inning leading to the Shepherd victory. Shepherd ended up taking the win by a final score of 10-4
Following the loss, the Tigers will try to look past this one. The Tiger will look to regroup quickly and prepare for their next contest. The Tigers will continue their road swing with a weekend series at Davis & Elkins starting Saturday March 15
th at 12 pm.
