ELKINS, West Virginia- With the weather heating up across the mountain state, the Salem Tigers baseball team continued their road swing. Today, the Tigers traveled to Elkins, West Virginia for an afternoon doubleheader against the Davis & Elkins Senators. The Tigers needed to take care of business and sweep the doubleheader. Fortunately, the Tigers were able to do just that. Salem secured game 1 by a final of 8-0 and won game 2 by a final score of 9-5.

In game 1,
Sam Schmitt got the call on the mound for the Tigers. During the 1
st inning,
Jose Lojo started things off fast with a double to right field. Lojo would go onto score after an error by the Senators giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. In the top of the 2
nd,
Jacob Hurley hit a solo homer to give the Tigers the 2-0 advantage. The following inning, the errors started to pile up for the Senators, resulting in a
Hunter Rose and
Jose Lojo run.
Sam Schmitt had success on the mound, with 4 strikeouts after 3 innings.
Luis Angarita would build on the Tigers with another solo homer in the top of the 4
th. Salem now led 5-0 after 4 innings of play.
Jose Lojo would start the 5
th off with a rbi single in which
Joe Wintermute would score. A few pitches later,
Hunter Rose hit a 2-run homer scoring
Jose Lojo. The Tigers had a commanding lead and were able to cruise to an 8-0 victory.

In game 2,
Jackson Thoma got the start at pitcher for Salem. The Tigers continued where they left off when
Reese Rinna hit a rbi single, resulting in a
Jose Lojo run.
Jacob Hurley hit a rbi groundout moments later and
Hunter Rose scored on the play. However, the Senators this time came back with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the 1
st. After 1 inning, the game was knotted up at 2. In the top of the 2
nd,
Joe Wintermute hit a rbi single in which
Jacob Stauffer would score.
Alex Harper hit a sac fly knocking in Wintermute for the run. After 2 innings, Salem led 4-2. Wintermute had another impressive at bat in the 3
rd where he hit a rbi triple.
Ryder Costa would score on the play. Moments later, Lojo knocked in Wintermut with a rbi double to left field. Salem now held a 6-2 advantage. Things held steady for the next few innings at 6-2. In the top of the 6
th, Rose hit a rbi single giving the Tigers their 7
th run of the game.
Jacob Hurley hit a rbi double to knock in Rose for the 8-0 lead. The following inning, Lojo hit a rbi single scoring Wintermute. The Tigers had a 9-2 advantage as we went into the final half inning. The Senators wouldn't go down quietly scoring 3 runs in the final inning. However, the Tigers would prevail for the 9-5 victory.

Following the doubleheader wins, the Tigers will look to continue this momentum into tomorrow. The Tigers will continue their road swing with another doubleheader tomorrow at West Virginia Wesleyan starting at 1pm.
