Salem Blanks Carlow in Twinbill Sweep

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania - Remaining in the Steel City after their split with Point Park, the Salem Tigers softball team took on the Carlow Celtics this evening for a pair of contests against the fellow USCAA foe. The Tigers were dominant all evening, and earned a pair of shutout wins to sweep the Celtics. Each contest played out as follows:

Salem 8, Carlow 0

In the first contest, the Tigers opened up things with a bang when Jazmyn Moetului opened the scoring with a 2 run home run in the first inning. Karmen Hogan and Alexis Valverde added a pair of RBI singles later that inning, and Salem controlled the game at 4-0. Kaydee Anderson put Salem back on the board in the third with a RBI single, and Bella Ortiz brought in 2 more runs with a triple in that same inning. Brooke Wise then added one final run for the Tigers with a RBI single in the 5th to cap off the contest at 8-0. In the pitcher's circle, Kendall Lemley went the distance for the Tigers to earn the win while allowing just 2 Celtic hits.

Salem 11, Carlow 0

For Game 2, Salem got right back to their offensive showcase they started in Game 1. Salem exploded for a total of 11 runs on just 8 hits. Brooke Wise led the way for Salem offensively with a pair of doubles and an impressive 5 RBIs in the contest. Karmen Hogan added a double as well, and Kaydee Anderson also finished the game with a pair of RBIs for Salem. In the pitcher's circle, Franchesca Alvaro earned the win for a strong 5 innings of work where she allowed just 1 hit and struck out 5 Carlow batters.

Energized by these two wins, Salem should be primed to continue the winning ways in their next contests. Those games will be against the Davis & Elkins Senators on March 29th at 1 PM in Elkins, West Virginia.
