Tigers Drop Pair at Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, West Virginia - As the month of March wraps up for Salem Softball, the Tigers made the trip up to the mountains of Elkins, West Virginia today to take on the Davis and Elkins Senators. It was a very even keeled matchup between these two teams, but despite some bright spots, the Tigers ended up dropping both contests this afternoon. Each game played out as follows:

Davis & Elkins 3, Salem 0

In Game 1, the Tigers fell behind early as the Senators added all three of their runs in the first inning. However, the scoring chances were few and far between for Salem as they could muster just 2 hits. Therefore, Salem could not find that scoring punch to get past the Senators in Game 1. In the pitcher's circle, Kendall Lemley pitched well despite the loss as she struck out 5 Senator batters in 6 innings of work.

Davis & Elkins 5, Salem 4

In Game 2, Salem got off on the right foot by opening the contest with an RBI single by Jazmyn Moetului. However, the Senators answered right back with runs in the 1st, 3rd, and 6th innings to control the contest at 4-1 heading into the 7th. Salem mounted one last rally in the 7th with a Kendall Lemley home run and a Abigail Harki RBI single to knot the game up at 4-4. However, the Senators were able to add a walk off RBI double in the 7th to seal the 5-4 defeat of the Tigers. In the pitcher's circle, Franchesca Alvaro went the whole way for Salem, and punched out 4 Senators in the contest.

With today's heartbreakers on the diamond, the Tigers will be looking to get back on track tomorrow, March 30th, at Noon when they head over the Buckhannon to take on the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats.
