DUBOIS, Pennsylvania- Following the end of the regular season, the Salem Tigers baseball team was selected as the 5 seed in the USCAA Small College World Series Tournament that takes place in Dubois, Pennsylvania. The Tigers were matched up against Mid-Atlantic Christian Mustangs in the opening round on Monday. Salem was able to secure the round one victory defeating Mid-Atlantic Christian 10-6.

Sam Schmitt getting the start on the mound. Salem was able to get on the scoreboard first after
Jacob Hurley was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
Aaron Forbes scored. In the bottom of the 3
rd, the Mustangs grabbed their first lead of the game after a rbi double to left center knocked in 2 runs. Mid-Atlantic Christian was able to keep that momentum rolling adding another runoff an error by Salem. As we headed into the 5
th, the Mustangs led 3-1.
Starting the top of the 5
th,
Reese Rinna hit a huge rbi triple down the right field line to score 3 runs.
Joe Wintermute,
Jose Lojo, and
Kylian Izaguirre all scored to regain the Salem lead.
Aaron Forbes followed that up with a 2-run homer to left field to knock in Rinna. Salem now opened the game up by grabbing a 7-3 lead. However, Salem had more where that came from in the top of the 6
th. Salem was able to tack on 3 more runs off hits by Wintermute and
Hunter Rose. The Tigers ended the 6
th with a commanding 10-3 lead. The Mustangs were able to make a late push in the bottom of the 6
thwhen they scored 3 runs. Fortunately, Salem would prevail to take the first-round victory by a final score of 10-6.
Sam Schmitt earned his 6
th victory on the season.
Following the huge round one victory, the Tigers will now wait to see who their next opponent will be. Salem's second round match up will occur tomorrow May 13
th at 4pm.
