DUBOIS, Pennsylvania - After a big day yesterday against Carlow, Salem softball was anxious to get back on the field today against the Seawolves of Southern Maine at the USCAA Small College World Series. Unfortunately, it was a slow day for Salem offensively, and the Tigers fell 7-2.
Southern Maine took control of the game early on with runs in the 3rd, 4th and 5th innings. With a 7-0 deficit and just two innings left to go, the Tigers finally found the beginnings of their comeback. Brooke Wise put Salem on the board with a RBI triple in the 6th, and Kylie Zinn brought her home shortly thereafter with an RBI single. However, the Seawolves' advantage was simply too large, and the Tigers rally dried up from there.
In the pitching circle, both starter Kendall Lemley and reliever Franchesca Alvaro had effective stints, but were not enough to cool off a hot Southern Maine lineup.
With this loss, Salem moves on to take on Penn State Schuylkill in the double elimination tournament. That next contest will take place on Wednesday, May 14th at 10 AM.
