BLUEFIELD, West Virginia - Salem University women's soccer opened its 2025 season on the road Wednesday evening, dropping a 9-0 result to Bluefield State at the East River Soccer Complex.
The Tigers battled throughout the 90 minutes behind a standout performance from goalkeeper Chloe Owens, who recorded 27 saves while facing relentless pressure from the Big Blue attack. Owens' efforts in net helped keep Salem composed despite Bluefield's 54 total shots, 36 of which landed on target.
Offensively, the Tigers generated their best opportunities through forward Audriana Medina, who tallied both of Salem's shots on goal in the first half. Bluefield State's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Kaycee Coty, held Salem scoreless.
Bluefield State built a 5-0 lead by halftime and added four more goals after the break. Jailynn Creek and Yassin Joof each struck twice for the Big Blue, while Janiya Pace also scored two second-half goals to help secure the win.
Salem is back on the field this weekend when they head up to Frostburg State on Saturday, September 10th.
