SALISBURY, North Carolina - Fresh off a win in their home debut, the Salem women's volleyball squad took their longest road trip of the regular season this weekend down to Livingstone College, where they had a tri-match scheduled with the host Bears and Calrk Atlanta. Salem ended up with a split on the day as they defeated Clark Atlanta 3-0, but were unable to overcome Livingstone on their home court 3-2. Each contest played out as follows:
Salem 3, Clark Atlanta 0
In Game 1, the Tigers started slow, and trailed 22-17 late in the first set . Yet, the Tigers found their stride and rattled off a 7 point rally to take control back at 23-22. Clark Atlanta pushed right back, but Salem was able to take set one in dramatic fashion 28-26 thanks to 2 huge kills from Marika Righi. From there, the Tigers controlled the contest the rest of the way, and rode strong performances from Righi and Valentia Poti to the well-earned 3-0 win.Â
Livingstone 3, Salem 2
In Game 2, Salem took on host Livingstone. Salem rode the energy of the Game 1 win to take set 1 in Game 2, but Livingstone was not about to go away quietly on their home court and took set 2. The Tigers responded with a strong set 3 win, but Livingstone was able to rally to take the final to sets to win the game 3-2. Statistically, Salem was led by 15 kills from Marika Righi, 19 assists from Amari Nunez, and 20 digs from both Righi and Ana Julia Avila Vian.Â
Salem is back in action at home next time around as they are set to take on Carlow for their second time this season on September 16th at 6 PM at home in T. Edward Davis Gymnasium in Salem, West Virginia.
