Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Kaden Shoaf

Salem Cruises Past Wright State-Lake

SALEM, West Virginia - After a tough result their last time out, the Salem women's volleyball team hosted the Wright State-Lake Lakers today for a rare Sunday morning home contest for the Tigers. Salem cruised to a decisive 3-0 win.

In the first set, the Lakers put the pressure on the Tigers early, but Salem took control of the game with a 6 point rally with Ana Julia Avila Vian at the service line. The Lakers kept things close, but Salem sealed the 25-19 set win with a Christeena Craddock service ace.

The second set started much like the first. Things were back and forth early, but the Tigers took control late in the set. The Tigers earned the 25-17 set win thanks to some strong play from Mykenzie Clyncke down the stretch.

In set 3, the Lakers made some early strides, and kept things even with the Tigers for quite a while. However, the Tigers leaned on their offensive leaders Valentina Poti and Marika Righi to earn the 25-20 set win and the overall match win 3-0.

Statistically, Salem was led by 12 kills from Marika Righi. Katie Kennedy tallied 25 assists for the Tigers as well. Both Katie Kennedy and Ana Julia Avila Vian led Salem defensively with 16 digs each.

After an extended home stand, the Tigers hit the road for their next contest. They are set to take on the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats in Buckhannon on Friday, September 26th at 7 PM.
