Athens, W.Va. — The Salem University men's basketball team wrapped up its road matchup on Saturday afternoon with a 101–75 setback to Concord University at the Carter Center.
Salem was led by Eman Lawal, who turned in a standout performance with 20 points and 11 rebounds, recording a double-double while playing all 40 minutes. Zahki Fallen added 17 points, knocking down two three-pointers and finishing with three assists, while Jamari Gamble contributed 10 points and three rebounds.
The Tigers faced an early challenge as Concord opened the contest with a strong first half, building a 46–30 advantage at the break. Concord shot 40.5 percent from the field in the opening half and connected on seven three-pointers, creating separation that carried into the second period.
Salem showed improved efficiency after halftime, shooting 55.9 percent from the floor in the second half and scoring 45 points over the final 20 minutes. Xavier Price chipped in seven points and five rebounds, while Vaughn Prosser and Ezekiel Birchett each provided energy off the bench. The Tigers also held an edge in points in the paint, outscoring Concord 50–38.
Concord was paced by Boubacar Djigo, who led all scorers with 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting, including four three-pointers, while Josiah Rickards added 20 points. The Mountain Lions finished the game with a 48–32 rebounding advantage and forced 17 Salem turnovers.
Salem will look to carry its second-half momentum into the next contest, which will be a home contest against the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets on Wednesday, January 7th at 7:30 PM.
