Tigers Take Charleston Down to the Wire

SALEM, WV – Despite a spirited second-half comeback, the Salem University Tigers (2-19) fell to the University of Charleston (15-8) 68-60 on Wednesday night at the T. Edward Davis Gymnasium.

Game Summary

The Tigers faced a challenging start as Charleston surged to a 26-12 lead in the first quarter. The Golden Eagles' offense was firing on all cylinders early, shooting 52.9% from the field and an impressive 80% from three-point range in the opening period. By halftime, Salem trailed 41-23 after struggling with their field goal percentage in the second quarter.

However, the Tigers found their rhythm in the third quarter. Led by defensive stops and a more efficient offensive attack (38.5% FG in the period), Salem outscored Charleston 16-7 to narrow the gap. The momentum continued into the final frame, where Salem poured in 21 points and shot 46.7% from the field, but Charleston was able to secure the win at the free-throw line, going 11-for-18 in the fourth quarter to stave off the Salem rally.
