Tigers Drop Road Contest to Pioneers

GLENVILLE, W.V. – The Salem University Tigers (7-14) faced off against a sharp-shooting Glenville State University (14-8) squad on Saturday afternoon at the Waco Center. In a game defined by fast breaks and physical play in the paint, the Pioneers ultimately secured a 100-73 victory over the Tigers.

Key Tiger Performances

Salem's offensive effort was spearheaded by Zahki Fallen, who put together a 21-point performance. Fallen was aggressive from the jump, finding ways to penetrate the Pioneer defense and leading the team in scoring for the afternoon.

Joining Fallen in double figures were:

  • Eman Lawal: Continued his consistent play with 14 points and 8 rebounds, leading the team in minutes played (34).

  • Justin Fisher: Contributed 11 points while dishing out 4 assists and crashing the boards for 4 rebounds.

  • Mack Toomer: Provided a highly efficient spark off the bench, going a perfect 4-of-4 from the field to finish with 10 points.

Game Breakdown

The Tigers showed flashes of brilliance, particularly in their interior game. Salem went toe-to-toe with the Pioneers in the paint, with both teams recording 34 points in the lane. Salem's tenacity on the glass was a bright spot, as they pulled down 13 offensive rebounds leading to 20 second-chance points.

Defensively, Xavier Price anchored the middle, grabbing 8 rebounds and recording a block, while Jamari Gamble and AJ Martiniello contributed to the defensive pressure with two steals apiece.

While Glenville State jumped out to an early lead behind a 61-point first half, the Tigers refused to back down. Salem adjusted effectively at the break, playing the Pioneers nearly even in the second half (39-34).

Looking Ahead

Despite the result, the Tigers showed resilience in one of the toughest road environments in the conference. Salem will return to the court looking to carry their second-half momentum into their next matchup.
