Tigers Fall at Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W.V. – The Salem University Tigers (2-18) faced a challenging road test on Saturday afternoon, falling 98-68 to Glenville State University (18-3) at the Waco Center. Despite a strong offensive effort in the second half, the Tigers were unable to overcome a significant scoring surge by the Pioneers in the middle periods.

Inside the Box Score

Meilin Guo led the Tigers' offensive charge, finishing with a team-high 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor. Guo also contributed six rebounds and an assist in 28 minutes of action.

Other notable Tiger performances included:

  • Akhia Miller: Netted 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

  • Selena Frost: Reached double figures with 10 points while leading the team with five assists.

  • Fatima Bakayoko: Provided a spark off the bench with 10 points, including two three-pointers, and six rebounds.

  • Batoul Khaleefah: Led the Tigers on the glass, hauling in a team-best eight rebounds.

Game Summary

The contest began as a defensive battle, with both teams finding their footing early. Salem trailed by just three points (19-16) at the end of the first quarter. However, the Pioneers broke the game open in the second period, outscoring the Tigers 32-10 to take a 51-26 lead into the locker room.

Salem found more rhythm in the second half, matching their third and fourth-quarter totals with 21 points in each period. While the Tigers' offense improved—shooting 47.4% from the field in the final frame—Glenville State's high-powered bench, which contributed 62 total points, proved too much to overcome.

The Tigers showed strength in the interior, outscoring the Pioneers 38-32 in the paint. They also remained disciplined at the free-throw line, finishing the game shooting 78.6% (11-of-14).
