Tigers Storm Back to Split with Frostburg State

On March 28, 2026, the Salem University Tigers hosted the Frostburg State Bobcats for a doubleheader at The Bridge Sports Complex in Bridgeport, West Virginia. The Tigers split the day, falling in the first game before bouncing back with a gritty performance in the nightcap.

Game 1: Frostburg State 11, Salem University 1 (5 Innings)

The opener belonged to the Bobcats, who used a high-powered offense to secure a run-rule victory in five innings. Frostburg State jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, totaling 11 runs on 8 hits.

  • Early Deficit: Frostburg scored 4 runs in the first inning, followed by 2 in the second and 4 more in the third to build a commanding 10-0 lead.

  • Tiger Offense: Salem broke through in the bottom of the fourth when Alexis Valverde singled to drive in Brooke Wise, who had led off the inning with a single of her own.

  • Bobcat Leaders: Arden Miller and Izabella Donaldson combined for five RBIs to pace the Frostburg attack.

Game 2: Salem University 4, Frostburg State 1

Salem turned the tide in the second game, relying on timely hitting and solid defense to earn a 4-1 win.

  • Key Moments: The Tigers maintained a steady lead throughout the contest, scoring single runs in the first, second, fourth, and sixth innings.

  • Turning Point: In the bottom of the sixth, Bella Ortiz singled and later scored on a throwing error to provide an important insurance run, extending the lead to 4-1.

  • Defensive Stand: Despite Frostburg putting two runners on in the top of the sixth, the Tigers' defense held firm to prevent a comeback.
