Tigers Drop Pair at Home to Fairmont State

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Salem University showed flashes on both sides of the ball Sunday but couldn't overcome big innings, falling in both games of a doubleheader to Fairmont State at The Bridge.

Game 1: Salem 1, Fairmont State 9
Salem found itself in an early hole and couldn't recover in the opener, managing just one run on four hits.

The Tigers' lone run came in the second inning when pressure on the bases led to Ali Jacobs scoring on an error. Salem put together a couple of opportunities throughout the game but struggled to string together hits, leaving runners on base in key moments.

At the plate, Jacobs, Bella Ortiz, Kendall Lemley, and Ali Shrieve each recorded a hit, while the lineup combined for eight strikeouts.

In the circle, Franchesca Alvaro took the loss after allowing seven runs over five innings of work. Brooke Wise provided relief, tossing two innings and limiting further damage.

Game 2: Salem 1, Fairmont State 5
Salem turned in a stronger performance in game two, taking an early lead and holding it into the late innings before Fairmont State rallied.

The Tigers broke through in the second inning when Alexis Valverde delivered a sacrifice fly to score Addison King, giving Salem a 1-0 advantage. Salem continued to apply pressure early, getting a double from Ali Shrieve and a single from Ali Jacobs in the inning.

Kendall Lemley kept Salem in front with a solid outing in the circle, holding Fairmont State scoreless through five innings. The Falcons, however, broke through in the sixth with a four-run inning to take control.

Lemley went the distance, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out five. Offensively, Brooke Wise led Salem with two hits, while Shrieve and Jacobs added one apiece.

Despite the losses, Salem showed improvement in the second game, carrying a lead into the later innings and competing throughout before the late-game swing shifted momentum.
