The Salem University softball team continued play at the Space Coast Complex in Florida on Wednesday, falling to University of Bridgeport 7-2 before dropping a contest against University of Jamestown later in the day.

Bridgeport 7, Salem 2

Salem struck first in the opening inning against Bridgeport. Bella Ortiz worked a leadoff walk and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kyleigh Cook. Ali Shrieve followed with an RBI single to right field to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.

Bridgeport answered in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double before taking control with solo home runs in the second, third, and fourth innings to build a 4-1 advantage.

The Tigers cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when Brooke Wise launched a solo home run to center field, making the score 4-2.

Salem finished with five hits in the contest. Ortiz went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base, while Ali Jacobs, Shrieve, Wise, and Alyssa Schultz each added a hit. Schultz also recorded a double.

Jamestown plated four runs in the first inning and added five more in the second to take control of the game. The Jimmies continued to add insurance runs throughout the contest, finishing with 12 hits.

Salem's lone run came in the bottom of the first inning. Ortiz again reached base to start the rally, drawing a walk before scoring on an error that allowed Cook to reach safely.
