MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Salem University Tigers baseball team put together a strong weekend performance, winning three out of four games against Fairmont State University.

Recap: The Tigers opened the series with a balanced effort on both sides of the ball. Conor Thiele earned the win, striking out six batters and allowing only two runs over five innings. Tyson Shumaker ignited the offense in the second inning with a solo home run to left field. In the fifth, Aaron Forbes delivered a sacrifice fly that helped plate two runs, including Landon McAlpine, following a Fairmont State error. Jared Layfield added an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI single to center. Richie Preston secured the save with two scoreless innings of relief.

Recap: Salem's offense exploded in the second game of the doubleheader. Brandon Hoftijzer gave the Tigers an early lead with a two-run homer in the third inning. After Fairmont State tied the game, Reese Rinna broke it open in the fifth with a massive grand slam, scoring Max Castro, Landon McAlpine, and Brandon Hoftijzer. The Falcons fought back to tie the game in the seventh, but Salem showed resilience in the bottom of the inning. Cody Thomas drew a bases-loaded walk to score Landon McAlpine for the walk-off victory. Aiden Eddy earned the win in relief.

Recap: Sunday's opener was a defensive battle that required four extra innings to decide. Aaron Forbes led the Tigers' offense with two hits, while Tyson Shumaker contributed an RBI groundout in the fourth to give Salem a 3-2 lead. Otho Savage provided a strong start, pitching five innings and striking out three. The Tigers' bullpen, including Ein Wolfe, kept the game close through the late innings. However, Fairmont State managed to secure the walk-off win with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th.

Recap: The series finale featured a masterclass on the mound from Brian Kendall. Kendall pitched a complete-game shutout, scattering six hits and striking out seven Falcons. The Tigers scored the only run of the game in the third inning when Landon McAlpine drove a sacrifice fly to right-center, scoring Tyson Shumaker. Joe Wintermute was a spark on the bases, recording two stolen bases to help Salem maintain the pressure throughout the contest.
With the series win, Salem improves to 24-13 overall on the season.
