Salem Falls in Home Doubleheader Against Charleston

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Salem University dropped both ends of a doubleheader against Charleston on Friday at The Bridge, falling 5-0 in the opener before an 8-3 setback in game two.

Charleston 5, Salem 0

Charleston used a strong pitching performance and timely hitting to take the first game of the day.

Salem was held hitless in the contest, as Charleston pitcher Addison Mass tossed a complete-game shutout with 11 strikeouts. The Tigers managed just two walks, coming from Jacobi Gledhill and Kendall Lemley.

Charleston got on the board in the first inning with a solo home run from Kayla Moran, then added three runs in the second—capitalizing on a Salem error to extend the lead to 4-0. An insurance run in the seventh pushed the final margin to five.

Ali Shrieve went the distance in the circle for Salem, allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits while working around five walks.

Charleston 8, Salem 3

Salem showed more offensive life in the nightcap, but a pair of big innings from Charleston proved to be the difference.

The Tigers struck first in the opening inning when Brooke Wise singled and later scored on an RBI double from Alyssa Schultz. Jacobi Gledhill and Ali Shrieve each added RBIs early as Salem built a 3-0 and later 3-2 lead through two innings.

Charleston responded with a four-run second inning to take control, then added another four runs in the fourth to extend the advantage to 8-3.

Schultz led the Salem offense, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double. Wise, Bella Ortiz, Kylie Zinn, and Gledhill each contributed hits as Salem finished with eight total.

Kendall Lemley took the loss after allowing eight runs over 3.2 innings, while Wise provided solid relief, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings and striking out two.

Salem will look to bounce back as the Tigers continue their homestand in the coming days.
