ATHENS, W.Va. — Salem University softball earned a split on Sunday at Concord, dropping game one before responding with a shutout victory in game two.
GAME ONE: Concord 2, Salem 0
Salem was held scoreless in the opener despite a strong effort from Ali Shrieve in the circle. The right-hander allowed two runs without surrendering a hit over six innings, but Concord capitalized on eight walks to generate its offense.
The Tigers recorded four hits in the contest, with Jacobi Gledhill and Shrieve each collecting doubles. Salem put runners on in multiple innings but was unable to deliver a timely hit.
GAME TWO: Salem 2, Concord 0
Salem bounced back in the nightcap behind a dominant performance from Kendall Lemley, who fired a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits.
The Tigers broke through in the second inning as Kylie Zinn scored on an RBI walk by Destiny Coble to give Salem a 1-0 lead.
Salem added an insurance run in the seventh when Brooke Wise connected on a solo home run to left field. Wise finished 2-for-3, while Jacobi Gledhill added three hits to pace an eight-hit effort.
With the split, Salem moves to 15-30 on the season.
