SALEM, W.Va. – A new chapter in Salem University men's soccer begins this fall as the Tigers return to conference competition for the first time in more than a decade, joining the Mountain East Conference as an associate member for the 2026 season.
The move marks a significant milestone for the program following a historic 2025 campaign that culminated with the program capturing the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championship. Now, Salem shifts its focus toward competing in one of NCAA Division II's premier conferences while continuing to challenge itself against a strong regional schedule.
The Tigers open the 2026 season on Aug. 27 with a road trip to Malone University before traveling to West Virginia Wesleyan on Sept. 1. Salem returns to Bridge Sports Complex for its home opener on Sept. 5 against Millersville University, the first of eight home matches during the fall campaign.
The opening month presents an immediate challenge as the Tigers host Millersville, the University of Charleston, Shawnee State University, Concord University, and West Liberty University while making road trips to Daemen University, Frostburg State University, and Point Park University. The demanding schedule will provide Salem with an opportunity to test itself against quality NCAA Division II and regional competition from the opening whistle.
Conference play takes on added significance this season as Salem begins competition in the Mountain East Conference. The Tigers will renew regional rivalries with fellow MEC members West Virginia Wesleyan, the University of Charleston, Concord University, and Wheeling University while also facing other familiar opponents throughout the season. The move provides Salem with the opportunity to compete for conference honors while strengthening the student-athlete experience through meaningful conference competition.
October features another exciting stretch of matches as Salem welcomes Malone University, Wheeling University, Virginia State University, and West Virginia Wesleyan to Bridge Sports Complex. The Tigers will also travel to Davis & Elkins College, Shawnee State University, Concord University, and the University of Charleston before concluding the regular season at home against West Virginia Wesleyan on Oct. 28.
One of the more unique contests on the schedule comes on Oct. 24, when Salem faces Virginia State University at a neutral-site match in Philippi, West Virginia. The matchup provides another opportunity for the Tigers to compete in front of fans from north-central West Virginia while adding a different atmosphere to the regular season.
While the program enters the season following one of the most successful years in school history, the focus has shifted to embracing the opportunities that come with conference membership. The Tigers will look to build on that momentum while competing against a talented Mountain East Conference field and continuing to establish themselves among the region's top NCAA Division II programs.
With eight home matches, renewed conference rivalries, and a schedule filled with regional competition, the 2026 season promises to be one of the most anticipated in recent Salem men's soccer history.
The Tigers officially open the 2026 season on Thursday, Aug. 27, at Malone University before making their home debut against Millersville University on Saturday, Sept. 5.
