ERIE, Pa. (Sept. 11) – The Tigers dropped a trio of matches at the Laker Invitational Saturday and Sunday afternoons at Erie Cathedral Prep High School.
The Salem International University water polo team, now 1-5 overall, dropped decisions to Mercyhurst (14-10), Gannon (15-9) and Washington & Jefferson (14-13). The Tigers also faced off with Lindenwood in an exhibition match on Saturday night that did not count towards their overall record.
Mercyhurst 14, SALEM INTERNATIONAL 10 – Saturday, September 10
The Tigers opened up play at the Laker Invitational with a 14-10 loss to host Mercyhurst. Freshman
Robert Juhas led the team with six goals in the match, while sophomore goalkeeper
Andrew Perry made nine saves in the loss. Salem International attempted 37 shots in the match.
Gannon 15, SALEM INTERNATIONAL 9 – Sunday, September 11
The Tigers were defeated 15-9 by rival Gannon in the team's first match on Sunday. Juhas led the squad with three goals, while fellow freshman
Milos Popovic and junior
Djordje Stavrevski each finished with two goals in the match.
Washington & Jefferson 15, SALEM INTERNATIONAL 14 - Sunday, September 11
Salem International concluded the weekend with a 14-13 loss to Washington & Jefferson Sunday evening. Stavrevski led the squad with four goals, while Popovic and sophomore
Mateo Kozomara each chipped in three markers in the loss.
The Tigers are back in the pool on Friday, September 16 when they take on Bucknell at 7:30 p.m. to open play at the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.
