SALEM, WV - The Salem International women's basketball squad welcomes the Marauders of Central State University to the T. Edward Davis Gym on Thursday night (Jan. 12) at 5:30 p.m. This will be the second meeting of the season between the two teams, with the Marauders having won on their home-court 66-31 back on Nov. 12, 2016. For the Marauders it will be their second-trip to Salem, having participated in the 35th Annual Joe Manchin Classic back in December.
The Tigers will look to turn things around offensively this time after shooting 21.4 percent from the floor in the previous matchup. Tamara Sellers guided the Central State offense, scoring 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting, while teammate Ghameerah McCullers added 11 points for the Marauders.
SIU has dropped four-straight contests after earning its second victory of the season against Elizabeth City State on Dec. 30, 2016. Following the game, the Tigers will hit the road for a pair of games against Alderson Broaddus (Jan. 25) and New York Institute of Technology (Jan. 30) before opening a three-game home-stand on Feb. 1 against Rio Grande (OH) at 5:30 p.m.
Central State is on a five-game winning streak, which started on the final day of the Joe Manchin Classic with a victory against Bluefield State on Dec. 10, 2016. The most recent win for the Marauders came on the road against Carver Bible College, 61-54. This contest ends a three-game road-trip for the Marauders, who return home to kick-off a four-game home-stand.
