SALEM, WV - Four teams will be in action this weekend for Salem International University as the men's and women's tennis programs head to Amherst, New York on Friday night (Feb. 17) for a 7 p.m. matchup against Daemen College. The Tigers softball team will open its 2017 season on Saturday (Feb. 18) in Raleigh, North Carolina against Shaw University at 2 and 4 p.m. SIU Baseball will have a four-game series in Savannah, Georgia on Saturday (Feb. 18) and Sunday (Feb. 19) against Armstrong State University.

On the tennis courts, the Tigers will look to knock-off the Wildcats of Daemen. Action for both tennis teams is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Ellicott Tennis Courts and will start with singles play, followed by doubles competition. On the men's side, SIU is 2-1 on the season after defeating Elmira College 6-3 this past weekend. Daemen is 1-6 on the season and has dropped each of its last four matches, most recently falling to Mercyhurst 8-1. On the women's side, the Tigers open their season against the Wildcats and will be guided by junior Jen Foreman. Daemen enters the match 6-11 on the season and has dropped back-to-back matches against Queens College and NYIT.

The Tigers will take to the softball field to open the 2017 season against the Shaw Bears with a doubleheader on Saturday. The Bears are 1-3 on the season after opening play against Benedict and Meredith. SIU will have two seniors on this years' squad with infielder Vanessa Jimenez and utility player Jordan Williams. Juniors Kayla Lynch and Katie Holestin will look to spend a majority of the time delivering strikes for SIU this season. Lynch, who will look to guide the Tigers to another successful season, needs 17 wins this season to set the program record for career wins.

The baseball diamond will see the Tigers in action against the Pirates of Armstrong State University. The Tigers and Pirates play a four-game series on Saturday and Sunday with games being played at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. both days. There will be live stats for all-four games of the series and live video for three of the four games. Links for both can be found on the 2017 schedule page at www.siutigerpride.com. SIU will be in search of its first win of 2017 after playing in South Carolina last weekend. The Pirates are 5-2 so far this season and are winners of their last four games after sweeping a three-game series from Paine last weekend.
