AMHERST, NY - The Salem International University men's and women's tennis teams both dropped their respective matches against Daemen College on Friday night (Feb. 17) 7-2 and 9-0.
The Tiger men earned their first point against the Wildcats in singles play as SIU's Marcelo Pachecho defeated John Wilson 6-3, 6-2. In doubles competition, the Tigers tandem of sophomores
Landon Schultz-Zwahr and
Christian Manalang defeated Daemen's R. Ruiz Martinez and Fabian Wilde 9-8.
Schultz-Zwahr and fellow sophomore
Eugene Bour both saw their respective singles matches go to a tie-breaker as Schultz-Zwahr fell 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 and Bour 7-6, 6-7, 1-0.
The SIU women dropped their first match of the season with Daemen recording straight-set victories in 4 of the 6 singles matches. The Wildcats would also record 8-0 victories in 2 of the 3 doubles matches.
Playing in the No. 6 singles competition, freshman
Megan Perez had the closest battle for SIU, falling 6-4, 6-1 to Daemen's Morgan Park.
