SALEM, WV - The Salem International University Tigers will be busy this weekend with men's basketball. baseball, and men's tennis all in action on the road. The SIU baseball squad opens their 2017 season, while men's tennis squad will be back in action for the first time since September 16, 2016.
The SIU men's basketball team will look to get back into the win column on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 4) as they head to Bluefield, West Virginia for a 4 p.m. tip-off against Bluefield State. The Tigers are in search of some revenge after the Blues handed SIU a 90-78 loss inside T. Edward Davis Gymnasium back in January. It will be the first of three consecutive road games for SIU, whose next home contest isn't until Wednesday, February 15 against Malone at 7 p.m.
On the tennis court, the SIU men are back in action after waiting-out Mother Nature during the winter months. The Tigers are 1-0 on the season after defeating West Virginia State 7-2 in Dunbar, WV. The Fairmont State University Invitational is a two-day event that kicks off on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 4) at 1 p.m. in Morgantown, WV. Day two of play will also begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. The first home tennis match for SIU is scheduled for Tuesday, April 4 against Fairmont State at 4 p.m.
Tiger baseball returns to the diamond on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 4) as SIU makes the trip to Wilson, North Carolina for a three-game set against Barton College. The Tigers and Bulldogs are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday with first-pitch set for 12 p.m. Both games will be seven innings and game two will follow approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the first game. Both teams will play a single nine-inning game on Sunday afternoon beginning at 12 p.m. The Tigers will continue their southern-swing until the second week of March when SIU is slated to face Alderson Broaddus University at Frank Loria Memorial Field in a single-game matchup beginning at 3:30 p.m.
