SALEM, WV - Mother Nature tried her best to dampen the spirits of the Salem International University softball team for a second-time, but the Tigers will play a pair of games Thursday afternoon (March 2) against Glenville State at 2 & 4 p.m. The Tigers and Pioneers will square off at the Sue Morris Sports Complex on the campus of Glenville State College.
The twin bill will be the final games for Tigers before they head to Florida on Sunday (March 5) to begin an eight-game journey before heading to Salem, Virginia for four games.
SIU is currently led in offense by a pair of freshman from California.
Morgan Atkinson is batting .588 with 10 hits, two doubles, one triple, and a team-high seven runs batted in.
Sydney McPherson is batting .529 for the Tigers with nine hits, a team-high five doubles, and four RBIs.
In the circle, junior
Kayla Lynch is 2-1 with a 2.26 earned run average for the Tigers. Lynch has went the distance in each of her three starts and has recorded a save in her other appearance. She has fanned 30 batters in 21.2 innings of work, while limiting them to a .167 batting average. Fellow junior
Katie Holestin is 2-1 with a 4.08 ERA on the season for SIU and has tossed one complete game. She has recorded 12 strikeouts for the Tigers in 12 innings of work.
